I am a ten month old, 45lb mix. My foster mom’s best guess is some blend of shepherd/lab. I came from Texas and as my foster dad got to know me he was sad to realize that I had more needs than his environment could provide me. So I was happy when my new foster mom understood this about me and I got to go stay with her to continue my learning and preparation for my forever family.

From my time with my first foster dad in Minnesota, they learned that I should not be in a family with kids or small critters, including cats. I have strong prey drive and like to chase moving things.  I love to show my love to people, but sometimes need someone to tell me how to do that politely. I am a strong boy and when I’m getting loved on, sometimes I want to show my love with my mouth. Not maliciously! It’s so hard to remember that human skin is delicate when I was never taught that before, but I’m doing much better with this with foster mom training and treating me and telling me “good boy!” when I do it right!

I love to follow my foster mom and dad around all over the house. They call me a shadow. I would  be best in a home with lots of land for me to roam with not a lot of activity going on around the environment like dogs/people walking by. I was leash and fence reactive at my last home because of all the dogs and people visible through the chain link fence that taught me some bad manners. My golden retriever foster brothers have taught me a lot about how to behave as a dog and how to read other dogs boundaries. It took me a minute to learn their cues, but I’m getting the hang of it!

I think I lacked stimulation in my early life, so I made up my own games—chasing light and shadows. But my foster mom recognized this as not healthy and gives me treat balls, stimulating toys, plenty of exercise, and redirects me when I do this so that I learn to focus on other things. I am also starting on medication to help my brain not get so worked up to begin with. And she thinks this will help me feel safer and calmer as I transition into my new home and settle in.

I love people and despite not having a stable environment for the first 10 months of my life. I have a huge desire to trust, love and live life with joy! I almost always have a smile on my face. I am super smart and quick to learn how to please you. I can’t wait to not have to worry about feeling safe and loved by giving someone who understands my needs my undying loyalty and love.
