Adoption Fee: 375.00

Hey everyone! My name is Klaus. I am heartworm positive but don't let that deter you! I will be completely healthy soon.

Do you love to go for walks?  How about throwing little tennis balls?  Do you hate electric toothbrush noises as much as I do?  If YOU answered YES to all three of those questions, then I think we may have a MATCH!

Here’s the important facts- my name is Klaus, but c’mon….how many Chihuahuas do you know that go by Klaus.  I prefer to go by  Paco .  I’m 4 years old, I’m a smart blonde boy.  I’m a smidge nervous- especially around electric toothbrushes.  Seriously…. It’s a weird little phobia, but I tell you what, I’m sure those things are evil.  I run and hide when I hear them.  But, it takes me about a week to settle in and know that you are as good as I’m hoping you are.  Once I decide that you’re a trustworthy and lovely human, I would LOVE your attention.  All of it.  I love going for walks, I’ve learned to love playing with toys- it took me a while, but now I love them.

I love to cuddle on the bed.  I’d much prefer to sleep right by you, but I also can be an adult and sleep in my crate with no issues.  Let’s talk about this though…. I’m coming from the place where 60 degrees is considered FREEZING!!  Once the thermometer plunges to 60, I’m really hoping to be able to snuggle with you.

Stairs are not an issue for me.  I’m in pretty good shape and can clear the stairs without a problem.  I appreciate a good meal and a good treat.  How about you?  Think of all the meals we could share together.

One thing about me that’s important for you to know….I do have something called heart worm.  I’m not excited about that, but I am looking forward to getting the little buggers out!  Please don’t let it scare you!  It’s treatable and once I’m on monthly preventatives, it’ll never be an issue again.  Yahoo.

I haven’t been around children- I’m guessing I’d appreciate a respectful teenager- but those little ones…. They might make me a little nervous- you know, Chihuahua and all….   I do like other dogs though!

Since Klaus is heartworm positive, he will need to be treated in at our clinic in Princeton.

Heartworm treatment consists of 3 injections. The first injection will be in roughly 30 days after coming into rescue. The the 2nd and 3rd injections happen 30 days after that. When a dog is going through heartworm treatment, they should be on "restrictions", meaning a lot of lap time, crate time and always on a leash. Heartworm disease is NOT contagious, it is transported via mosquitos.

Here is a great article explaining what heartworm is and how it's treated: https://www.heartwormsociety.org/pet-owner-resources/heartworm-basics
