I am originally from Texas. I have been with my fosters for a few weeks and we have been getting to know each other. They don't know much about my texas history so they have talked to my texas foster. The first night with my Texas foster I was nervous and had a potty accident in the house and they found me sitting in the corner with my head down, almost like I was punishing myself. I need a lot of reassuring confidence boosting and praise.
My fosters are also working with being comfortable around males, they even did a session with a trainer. I use my kennel as a "safe bubble" and will let you know with a growl that I want to be left alone. My foster mom can hook the leashes to me, but now my foster dad. I have just recently gone up to my foster dad to take treats from him.
I go in my kennel at night and do well. I go out potty on schedule with foster mom. They have been very patient and understanding with me and they are intent on their search for a furever home that can continue this.
My foster mom can scratch behind my ears and almost put me to sleep. I can be gentle, but I also have my guard up.
These are some special requirements for me to be successful and to live the life of a dog:
*Time, Patience, Understanding
*I need to go at my own pace, yet someone willing to work with me on training
*Older, respectful kids
*MUST, MUST, MUST have a secure fence as I am an escape artist and have been gone a couple of times before my current fosters home
*Love and a gentle touch, calm demeanor
*Understand I dont really play with toys, unless I just haven't found one that I like
I am also Heartworm Positive and am currently going through treatment. This will be completed in December and will be ready for adoption then OR I am available through the Foster To Adopt program.
I know this sounds like a lot to take on, but my foster mom and dad think I have been through alot and they know with the right family that I can really blossom into a great dog with so much love to give
A little bit about me...I am heartworm positive, but don’t let that deter you! I will be completely healthy again very soon.
Since Tucker is heartworm positive he will need to be treated at our clinic in Princeton.
Heartworm treatment consists of 3 injections. The first injection will be in roughly 30 days after coming into rescue. The the 2nd and 3rd injections happen 30 days after that. When a dog is going through heartworm treatment, they should be on "restrictions", meaning a lot of lap time, crate time and always on a leash. Heartworm disease is NOT contagious, it is transported via mosquitos.
Here is a great article explaining what heartworm is and how it's treated:
An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal.
All Ruff Start dogs and cats are spayed/neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccines, microchipped, dewormed, and on monthly flea/tick and heartworm prevention (dogs) as well as heartworm tested (dogs).
Ruff Start Rescue is a foster based rescue. Animals are located in homes throughout Minnesota. We do not have a facility where animals are kept.
