Hello there, my name is Donnie! I joined Ruff Start Rescue nearly one year ago from the Pine Ridge Reservation, where I was lost in the dead of winter with nowhere to call home. I had been trying to make it on my own for far too long in the extremely cold temperatures, this required treatment for hypothermia when I was finally saved. I'm enjoying my brand new life in my foster home and have completely put the past behind me! Despite my rough start in life, I am the sweetest boy you'll ever meet!
I am a huge cuddlebug who is perfectly content relaxing on the couch and watching movies. I love to be near my people and even insist on being a "lap dog" despite my large size. I'm an extremely friendly guy that gets along with other dogs of all shapes and sizes! I even live with kids in my foster home and am very gentle and respectful of them. My foster mom says that I'm a total lover that doesn't have a mean bone in my body! I am crate trained and will even go in on command. I am an extremely smart boy and very food motivated, which makes teaching me new things a breeze! I love to make my people proud and especially like to be told that I'm a good boy! I've even learned that if I sit nice when I hear the fridge open, that I might get a piece of cheese!
For being such an all-around great guy, I haven't been dealt a very fair hand in life thus far. After suffering from unknown urinary issues and undergoing many tests, I was given the diagnosis of reflex dyssynergia. What this means is that I cannot fully empty my bladder at times, due to portions of my urinary system not working together when they are supposed to. Because of this condition my bladder has become four times larger than it should be. In order to drain my bladder I need a weekly catheterization performed. Please don't let this scare you away, I do extremely well with it, lay perfectly still and know that relief is coming. You don't need any experience to learn how to perform this, it's a very easy process, I'll just need someone who is committed to making it a priority for the duration of my life.
I have so much love to give and promise that I'll be worth every second of it! I hope to have a brand new family of my very own for the holidays this year! Please submit an application and give me a chance to sweep you off your feet!
In the meantime if you have questions or are interested in me, please fill out an adoption application at www.ruffstartrescue.org.
An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal. Once we receive your application, a placement coordinator will be in contact with you as soon as possible.
Please check out our website, www.ruffstartrescue.org for more details and additional pictures on any of our animals!
All Ruff Start dogs and cats are spayed/neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccines, microchipped, dewormed, and on monthly flea/tick and heartworm prevention (dogs) as well as heartworm tested (dogs).
Ruff Start Rescue is a foster based rescue. Animals are located in homes throughout Minnesota. We do not have a facility where animals are kept.
