Hi there! My name is Doorknob but my foster family actually calls me Doorbell, silly huh? I can be a little distant with new people at first, but if you just give me some time I will be your partner in crime in no time at all! I am potty trained on a schedule, and crate trained if lead by a leash, score! I do really well with other doggy friends but sometimes prefer to just lounge around and coexist with them.I also live with a couple of these things called "cats" in my foster home and do very well with them. When I was first rescued down in Louisiana,I lived with lots of other chi's in a home that had a fire. However, I came in well fed (maybe a little too well;)). I currently am fed in the morning and at supper time with the correct amount of food per the instructions on the bag. I am happy to say that I've been living a much healthier lifestyle these days and have shed most of my extra pounds after a lot of dieting and hard work! I am fed next to two of my fosters dogs and have been known to try and take their meals when they are not looking. My foster mom makes sure we all eat out of our own bowls so I go and pout until she says potty outside. Those words are my favorite because we all run for the door. I do better off leash and going to the potty so if you have a fence that is a bonus for both of us. I will go potty while on a leash too. I just prefer to run to the door and go straight out side. My foster will be trying a lead in her back yard, come spring time (if I am still here) and she thinks I will do well on that because I will get to choose where I go potty. I have quirks due to my past but am able to live with my foster mom and three human foster siblings ages 15 to 7 without issues. I taught them everything they know on how to take care of me so I feel safe. The fosters know my cues and are working with me everyday to get better and better at being a dog. I do love my blankets and do not like people taking them from me but will share with you once I get to know you and you have the right moves :) I do love to snuggle on my terms (when I want it). I am not fond of being picked up like a baby but my foster mom can show you how to pick me up the way I like it. I have been known to bug my fosters for pets and give them some kisses. My big human foster sister loves to sweep and I cannot stand the broom so I go to my kennel for cleaning time. I can be very playful when I'm in the mood to be and am also known to tell a good story or two (bark) while doing it or of course if that doorbell rings. If I am not in the mood I am usually on my blanket or yours. If you are good at reading dog cues and willing to give me some love and patience I would really like you to fill out an application for me. I really hope to have a family of my own, could that be you?

In the meantime if you have questions or are interested in me, please fill out an adoption application at www.ruffstartrescue.org.

An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal. Once we receive your application, a placement coordinator will be in contact with you as soon as possible.

Please check out our website, www.ruffstartrescue.org for more details and additional pictures on any of our animals!
